The assassination attempt did seem to exit the news cycle pretty quickly, I'll give you that.

But in context, it resulted in a very minor wound for the intended target, which is not usually the case. Add in all the other craziness in the news during this campaign and the fact that Trump doesn't exactly inspire feelings of empathy or pity in others, and that's probably why it blew over so quickly. 

My guess is the bigger story today is the probable PTSD he's suffering from in the aftermath. He'll never admit that though, so it will continue to be a non-story nobody is reporting on.
