Qb scoring change

Recommended Posts

Playing in a league where we have changed the scoring of the qbs. All touchdowns are 6 points. It is a PPR league with a .1 point for every yard. This also applies for the passing yards. So, a qb on a good game would get near 50/game. Say he throws for 3 tds and 300 yards would be 48 points. The chatter from our league is everyone will be drafting the top qbs early. I have the 5th pick and would not be surprised if someone drafts Allen and Mahomes before me. I just do not feel there is that much difference between the top qbs and the 8th or 9th qb. Am I stupid to keep drafting my wrs and rbs and waiting on the qb position. Appreciate all comments

So the QB gets 10 pts for every 100 yards? That’s extremely high. Add on the 6 pts for tds and you just gave weepaws a coronary.

This scoring system obviously favors QBs and pocket passer’s especially. A guy like Dak last year would have had an incredible season.

Mitigates the running QB somewhat but it’s not a scoring system I’d sign up for

Wow, you're gonna have some high scoring Qbs. Never heard of that point system. So much for running Qbs.  Downgrades guys like Hurts, Jackson, and Richardson. All you care about is big passing yards.  This is similar to one of my leagues which gives 0.5 pts per completion. Not a huge fan, but it does screw up rankings... yet some keep drafting off their sheets like nothing changed, but it makes a big difference.

If I were in your league... I'd still wait. Prescott, Goff, Cousins, Tua... all available in later rounds and all have a legit shot of finishing with top 5 passing yards. I'd draft two late and see which one rises to the top. That's my strategy even my 0.5 pt completion league... which occasionally has 70 pt Qb games.

And ppr.... wr-wr. Especially if people are drafting Qb's early. Benefit off that mistake.

I think the draft will dictate when draft your first Qb, with that many potential points from the Qb slot, I can see some owners taking two QBs early.

Im not a fan of the yardage points, but most leagues I've been in  give six points for passing Tds

well, when the fantasy points for QBs becomes so overwhelmingly tilted toward the QB I think you need to go QB early.   QB's who throw for TDs are now on a level playing field to those who rush for them.

Lets face facts.  if your QB gets 30 pass td or more, the TD change alone now gives them an extra 60 fantasy points per year.    that's huge.

I am going on the assumption that the rest of the positions are typical standard or PPR scoring?

or is there some other rules with the scoring that changes that too?

You'd think so. But in my 0.5 pt per completion league with bonus pts for 300+ passing games and 6 pt passing Tds, people still draft off standard cheat sheets. And it's a big money league.

I'm still deciding which late round Qbs I want in that league... I'm currently very high on Tua Tagovailoa.  Going in 10th+ rounds of most drafts. In standard leagues I get why people aren't big on him.... finished Qb 19 in standard - he never runs. But in my ridiculous scoring system he finished 8th. And that was with Mostert fluking an insane amount of goal line Tds, and Tua taking the 2nd half off several times because they were leading by so much. Add in Jonu Smith, healthy Achane, new fast-as-hell Rb and Wr rookies. And ya never know, maybe Tua adds one or two rushing Tds. Wouldn't be surprised if he finished with 35 to 40 total Tds. along with 4,500+ yds. Not bad for a 10th rounder.

Thanks. Just one problem.... fantasy playoffs. Miami's final schedule:

Week 15 @ HOU - decent defense

Week 16 SF - very good defense

Week 17 @ CLE - good defense and it's gonna be freezing cold

:ninja:

That sounds like a big boost for QBs, which would mean I would want one of the better QBs.

The roster dynamics of the positions you must start don't really change much, but the value of one of them has been elevated quite a bit it sounds like.

That's a big change. You should try to adjust accordingly I believe.

On a side note, I've never understood the 4 pt passing TD thing any way

that would be implied yes, but really what you want is a QB who gets lots of TD.   yardage is important but quite secondary compared to the TD production

You could say it does two things.

It elevates QBs in general.

It also evens the balance out a little bit between QBs like Jalen Hurts that get lots of rushing TDs, and pocket passers, considering all TDs are equal
