about the slap?  or about the backup being good enough to work at subway?

Rostering Fields on your Fantasy Roster seems like a no brainer, am I wrong? He's an elite Fantasy talent whenever he's on the field and he's going to get an opportunity at some point this season.

He can either win you a League or get you a big trade piece in season.

He's definitely one to keep an eye on. I also get the strong feeling that he will be the starter sooner rather than later.

When that happens, he should be in a better situation in Pitt than he was Chicago. Not saying he's gonna be a great QB but he shold put up some big fantasy numbers.

All I hear is noise. Wilson is still better than fields. With all the nonsense in Denver last year he finished with the 9th most tds in the league. He has had ONE bad season in his career and bounced back the next year with a shittshow surrounding him. Fields is going to show flashes of brilliance that make you think he could be Lamar Jackson then he does not see the open wr 10 times in a row.

Yeah I think Fields only gets out there if the team sucks or Wilson gets hurt. He is not a good real QB

Wilson, despite any production, is a head case.  It's clear that's true because no team moves on from a franchise QB while he can still perform even if a cheaper option is available.  Teams only move on from them if they're tired of the act.  Whether Wilson is better at the QB position or not, I believe he's a one and done in Pittsburgh and if they can pull the plug on him at any point, they will.  I think their plan at acquisition was to bring in Wilson as the starter and have a year to analyze and build up Fields if possible.  If Fields progresses like they want, they give him a new deal and let Wilson walk.  If not, I think they evaluate the drama that Wilson and the Mrs, brings and the production he yields before signing him long term.

For fantasy...

  • 1 QB league I don't waste a spot on Wilson, but I would on Fields because he has high end potential.  Wilson's ceiling, I believe is a QB2.  If I need him in a bye week, I'll go pick him up off waivers.
  • 2 QB/Super flex league, I'm fine with Wilson as my QB2.
  • Keeper/dynasty, I'm only rostering Fields.

Yea Wilson 26 tds, 8 ints , 66% competition rate.   Horrible situation with a coach that didn’t want him last season.

Wilson is going to be the Qb.

Fields will be a rebirth of slash in Pittsburgh, and his presence makes me even more cautious about drafting Harris or Warren.

My thoughts exactly. Russ is blah, he's ok but he's not winning anything anytime soon and rubs players/coaches the wrong way over time.

Back to back bad starts and Fields is in. It's a clear path to being the starter IMO. Russ is crap, on a 1 year deal and Fields is this shiny new box of sharp objects. It's the perfect storm for Fields. Roster up!

I might even like Pickens more with Fields at Qb, his ability to cause chaos to the defense worked great for DJ Moore last season, even if Fields competition % stinks.

I think this is the situation.

if the team gets off to a slow start (regardless of whether it's the fault of the QB or not) there is a good chance fields sees the field (pardon the pun)

if the team is 1-5 or 2-4 after 6 games then Wilson is on shaky ground.   if 3-3 or better he gets more time.   I do think Wilson is good enough to get them to a 3-3 record to start the year.  I dont know if he gets them through to the end of the year.

Looking at that schedule I can easily see them going 1-4 to start the season. They'll probably only be favorited against the Broncos, ironically.

well, thats about where I think it is.     its possible Wilson gets a longer leash if the lose games but are competitive and Wilson plays well.     but thats a lot of what ifs.

I think Fields is mostly a dart throw to see if he can be salvaged. My guess is they fully expect to draft a guy in the next year or two or keep their eyes out for an unusual trade or free agent opportunity.

True, he is what he is. He sucks in real life but insanely good for Fantasy purposes. This could be his last go around as a real life productive QB.

Yup.  Agreed.  I think the situation for the NFL and fantasy are the same.  The Steelers are taking a shot to see if coaching was the issue (I think there's merit to that stance), and for fantasy, if he does play, he could put up big numbers.  He's probably worth 10+ points a week from just rushing.  He's worth a stash with a last round or 2 draft pick.

If there was any chance whatsoever for fields to make it a competition he killed it last night. They are going to pay through the nose for Ayuk and then toss wilson into the fire once training camp ends

I would want to start the season with Wilson.

It stinks alright... 31 Qbs had 250+ passing attempts last year. Field's 61.4% completion rate ranked 28th just above Zach Wilson, Bryce Young, and Will Levis.

And that was Field's highest completion percentage over his three year career.  Oof.

He sucks but that "what if" is tempting.

Unfortunately at this point he's nothing more than a glorified Trey Lance.
