But as stupid as we are, Trump’s new tariffs will be far far worse and lead to an economic catastrophe.” I wish the moderators had pressed Trump more on tariffs because when I listen to him I honestly think he doesn’t understand what they are or how they work. He still insists every time that other countries will simply pay them without raising any prices on consumers. I don’t think he’s lying here I think it’s worse, that he actually believes it. He also again tonight displayed a total ignorance of how NATO is funded. Just amazing a guy could be President for 4 years and know less than most fifth graders. Biden kept the tariffs. So, you believe that you know more about tariffs than a former POTUS who graduated #1 in his class from the Wharton School Business? Unseal the records and show the transcripts. Only feedback I can find on Trump’s performance at Wharton: “It’s rare for a professor to disparage the intelligence of a student, but according to attorney Frank DiPrima, who was close friends with professor William T. Kelley for 47 years, the prof made an exception for Donald Trump, at least in private. “He must have told me that 100 times over the course of 30 years,” says DiPrima, who has been practicing law since 1963 and has served as in-house counsel for entities including the Federal Trade Commission and Playboy Enterprises. “I remember the inflection of his voice when he said it: ‘Donald Trump was the dumbest student I ever had!’” He would say that [Trump] came to Wharton thinking he already knew everything, that he was arrogant and he wasn’t there to learn.” Kelley, who passed away in 2011 at age 94, taught marketing at Wharton for 31 years, retiring in 1982.” https://www.phillymag.com/news/2019/09/14/donald-trump-at-wharton-university-of-pennsylvania/

She still comes off to me like a soulless DC lizard person, tried to emote a little too much, and said a few things they made me roll my eyes like bragging about the Cheney’s endorsement. But Trump had a terrible night. Ten minutes in, he was red faced, yelling and sputtering nonsense. He also looked like a corpse in orange spray tan. Unhinged, creepy, and deeply weird. If I were Kamala I’d ask for ten more debates.

zsasz 343 Posted September 11, 2024 Kamala spoke in vague generalities like most politicians do, help the middle class/tax break etc. etc. She wasn't exactly setting the world on fire with outrageous, bold ideas. Telling me you want a tax break for the middle class or a small business credit without explaining where its coming from is as American as apple pie. Trump, for both better and worse, often pops bold, outrageous ideas - buying Greenland, Space Force, giant walls on our borders etc. etc. One might think that I'm ridiculing him for this; but I don't. Bold ideas are interesting....BUT. If you have BOLD!!!!!! idea; you best explain it to me how you're going to do it. When pressed with his bold idea of deporting 20M illegals.....he didn't explain it. If he can't explain it now within 2 months of the election and 4 months from when he would take office...it ain't going to happen.
Sean Mooney 1,815 Posted September 11, 2024 In a few other debates where Kamala has participated she got pretty much steam rolled by Tulsi Gabbard and while she did better against Pence in 2020 she still only at best pushed that draft. Her debate skills have been regularly kind of bad especially for a former prosecutor. It felt like last night was a perfect opportunity for Trump to fully halt her momentum (which has been receding) and end this for good. From what I saw last night in bits and pieces and from what I gathered this morning watching more of what I missed she started off weak with a bad answer avoiding the question of "are Americans better off today than 4 years ago." And Trump made an initially solid case or two. But then she started to find her footing. She did what I'd expect a prosecutor to do and painted pictures with her words (I'd imagine for a lot of women voters the idea of a woman bleeding out in her car because she can't get healthcare she needs due to the overturning of Roe vs Wade will stick). Trump reeled a little as he couldn't figure out the best way to approach this. Then she took the dig about the rallies and he was off the rails at that point and never really recovered. She outright said "Go to his rallies and he won't talk about you or your needs." His response was "I have the best rallies. The biggest rallies." He couldn't even pretend to give an answer about the American people. I imagine his people backstage facepalmed at his response. Even on the immigration thing- which should be a big issue for him- he went for crazy instead of reality. They asked about his comments on her blackness and his response was "I couldn't care less..." then he proceeded to talk for another minute or so about her blackness. She talked about America being an optimistic place and we should embrace one another and he yelled about how the country is failing. She kept talking about her tax credits for small business. He just kept yelling about things. She talked about him being a joke to world leaders. The only person he mentioned is an autocrat in Hungary. When asked about his plan for replacing the ACA he said "I have concepts....but I'm not the President." She constantly walked him into traps and he kept taking the bait over and over again. Look in the end I don't know how much a debate matters- some of us talked about that the other day- but if they do matter than I think the Harris camp has to be incredibly pumped about how last night went. If she loses- it won't be because of how she performed in the debate. Now they need to sit and talk with Tim Walz and have a good answer for when the question comes up about stolen valor....because it is going to come.
