Caleb Williams is the real deal.

one of my giants fan friends just told me that. I remember his NFL career a bit...  they also requested to interview Flores.  Does the rooney rule require multiple minority candidate interviews?

edit:  I see it''s 2.   always thought it was 1

I didn't have to look for them.  You're right though, you can find anything to fit a narrative there.

Who do you want as head coach?  Assuming they dont land Ben Johnson?

Rumor of McCarthy to the Bears

You act like I'm saying he's the best QB ever or something, I'm not.  He has a lot to improve on but he has tons of potential.  The Bears haven't had a decent QB that could lead the franchise since Jay Cutler.  They have their guy, now it's up to the owners to take advantage of it.

To be fair, you cited those "records"... so it's fair for someone to point out the bar was pretty low.

That said, I think Caleb has the talent to be a good NFL QB. He played behind a poor offensive line is a typical excuse as well as mulltiple HC's / OC's... no one mentioned the flip side that they also surrounded him with more talent than most rookies are afforded with DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Adunze, DeAndre Swift and Cole Kmet.

then again if the team wins more games early on, would there have been a new HC? Would there have been 3 OCs?  Likely not.  Being a Jets fan, it's similar. We have a moron owning the team. Robert Saleh was not a good HC but if they don't fire him after a 2-3 start, i'm sure they win more games... possibly 8 or 9.  when you take your DC and make him HC mid season, the defense is going to suffer... and it did. The offense sort of got back on track but I think that had more to do with Rodgers shaking off the rust.

So yes, I agree. It's going to be up to ownership to take advantage of Caleb's talent.

I still think Daniels is better and would have drafted him first but Caleb should be a good NFL QB if handled the right way.

If not Johnson, then probably Vrabel.

Have you seen the play calling?  Have you seen the coaching?  You can have an all star line up and will struggle with poor coaching.

I don’t know about that. Sirriani and Todd Bowles don’t remind anyone of Lombardi and Landry.  Sometimes talent is enough. Barry Switzer comes to mind.

Yes. I understand.  I was not insinuating otherwise. I've watched it first hand with the Jets.  Wilson, Hall, Adams, Rodgers.... doesn't matter when the sideline is a mess.

I'm just pointing out that stuff like poor o-line play (which is often an issue for highly drafted rookie QB's, because... you know... the team had a top pick for a reason) always gets mentioned but rarely do you hear mention of all the weapons he had which is a luxury most highly drafted rookie QBs DONT get

plus, didn't the Bears line rank out pretty middle of the pack?  I believe they had a very high sack rate but a lot of that is likely Caleb holding onto the ball too long, which he was known to do in college.

I'm not worried about Caleb Williams at all, in fact I'm even more sold after his rookie season.

Remember, this kid was NEVER coached. In college they just threw him out there to play Hero ball. He's got unbelievable playmaking abilities and an unbelievable skillset. They can correct the sacks and him holding onto the ball too long. Everything that was bad can be corrected.

Oh it got mentioned before the season.  Every analyst said this is one of the best situations a #1 pick has went to.  Bears fans were salivating at their fantasy football roster.

Of course I agree that switching coaching mid-season is tough on a rookie QB.  I do realize that their OL wasnt what you would call a good unit.

Bears fans dont know good rosters so I give them a pass.  But analysts that played the game should know that it take more than a few good weapons to make an offense potent.

I give Caleb a solid C+ on the year everything considered.  Im not saying thr kid is toast already.

I'm fine with that, especially given that the o-line and coaching was pitiful. But let's not forget the traits that got him drafted consensus #1. Those were all on display and at times he made some of the most incredible throws you'll ever see. He also feels pressure very well and has eyeballs in back of his head, BUT he was always holding onto the ball way too long trying to be a hero every play. He can be coached up, let's just hope he gets the right ones.

What are you doing here? You don't talk football, do you? If so I'd love to have some serious football convo with The General.

I’m in deep research mode for playoff football drafts. Got my team crunching the numbers.

Pick 5 in 8 team draft. 😎

Is it just for this week or does it carry over week to week? Because I was in one like that last season where it was for the whole playoffs.

If a players team lost you'd use that player. Last team standing won. Almost like a guillotine league

This will be for whole playoffs. Team loses the player is gone.

Got to pretty much have at least a couple players who make SB. Been doing this for years with same group.

Will also do a bunch of side stuff but this draft is where I’ll be focusing. Looking at the seeding liking loading up on Philly for this, will settle for Detroit.

Liking Bills on the other side but AFC is a minefield.

Yup, draft plenty of Lions, Eagles and Bills.

But it wasn't the best situation. His o-line was God awful and his coach was even worse.

On paper, it was the best situation a number 1 overall QB had been drafted into.  The Bears did what they always do though.

Chicago dodged a bullet (no pun intended) by not giving him equity in the team when he was drafted.

It has been reported that the quarterback told teams that he was looking for a minority stake in whatever team selects him at the 2024 draft.

I don't know off the top of my head.  I know that the 1st overall pick usually goes to the worst team each year and that the Bears were the exception that year.  Rarely does a rookie QB have that many weapons on offense.

Don't bother. These guys don't realize coaching and GMs affect the quality of a team. They don't know that ANY QB behind one of the worst o-lines in the league will not win. They don't know that a run game is the QBs best friend.

Washington was #3 in rushing and the Bears were #25.

I don't know the number on first down rushes the Bears had, but it's probably like 38th in the league. Not even good enough to be mentioned as part of the other 31 teams.

They don't realize that Caleb Williams had 3 OCs and 2 Head coaches in his rookie year in the league. Great stuff.

One of the craziest stats I saw was the amount of sacks that Williams avoided. We all know he was sacked over 60 times but he also avoided 50 sacks. That’s ridiculous.

This guy thinks the words "rushing game" is synonymous with "running backs". He doesn't even know what an offensive line does in football. 😆

We’re comparing QB’s dumbass. Part of Daniels game is running, which is the reason for Washington’s lofty run stats. Williams provided no such boost.  If you put Williams on Washington their run game would be shitt. Schools out.

Yeah, coaching and o-line is meaningless in the NFL. :lol:

3rd in the NFL with 154.1 yards per game? Only behind Baltimore and Philadelphia? Oh yeah, they sucked. 😆
