Darnold can at least get the ball to JJ well, yes and no. the line was exposed more than he was. the line was basically a turnstile. I dont know that there are more than one or two QB that could have performed behind that line. It looks like they have made some changes that I have to believe make the line better. admittedly part of the problem was injuries last year but a lot was bad play. I think with a little time to throw and an actual true #1 WR on the roster they will be better. now whether they are better enough to be good is one thing, but I think they should be able to beat Darnold. but the bar is very low. listen2me 23 1,756 Posted September 3 They are a slight home dog. Nothing crazy. Sam Darnold may not be good but to this point hes proven more capable than Jones. Minny has better weapons and OL. Who has the better defense? Not a lot of positions where you can say thr Giants have the edge. They are a bad team. Giants were bad last year. They lost 2 of their best players. Barkley and McKinney. GobbleDog 918 Posted September 3 I'm betting on Vikings. People will be eating some crow for all the Sam Darnold bashing that's been going on before the season is over. Either that, or I'll help myself to some.
gcmmidwest 146 Posted September 3 They better sign a Ryan Tannehill or somebody because darnolds backups are horrid now that JJ is out for the year

RareN64Dream 21 Posted September 4 Vikings signed a back up also. Brett Rypein. I think, Nick Mullens is the 2nd on the depth chart and Sam Darnold is starter.

nobody 2,461 Posted September 4 Darnold is pretty good when there is no pressure. He'll probably be decent until the Vikings win a couple of games and they start getting some attention. Then he'll collapse under the pressure like he always does going all the way back to win he played at USC.
MDC 6,754 Posted September 4 Vikings are below average. Giants are among the worst teams in football. Looking at NYG schedule, they might be favored in 2 games all year.

But I feel like he was overdrafted in his rookie season in fantasy. Quickly looking at ADP. He was slightly ahead of Higgins, Pickens, Pittman....to.me that too much with Dan Jones at QB throwing for 175 yards a game. I guess it will depend on how much they just force him the ball. But I could easily see him being shy of 1000 yards this season. Not sure his TD upside either.

Not sure his TD upside either. honestly its tough to project any rookie WR to get over 1000 yards. sure it happens, but the guy needs to be a finished product dropping into a good situation. even then, there is still a learning curve once the guy hits the NFL. only WR in this class I'd even consider taking that early is Harrison. Nabers has similar talent but doesnt have as good a team around him and that will hurt his numbers I dont mind projecting Nabers for 800 to 850 yards though. and thats a pretty good rookie season for a WR

Especially for such a highly touted prospect. Thats where he was being drafted tho. Just felt like his ADP was high. I had 2 drafts and his name didnt even come across my mind by the time he was drafted in both.

Ray_T 718 Posted September 5 6 hours ago, weepaws said: Not true, all those qbs are good without pressure. at the NFL level there are not a lot of QBs who throw without pressure. There is always someone trying to bat down your passes or getting in the face of the QB. either you can play with pressure, or you dont remain a starting QB at the NFL level very long. in general the QB's internal clock to process plays has to allow them to get rid of the ball before pressure gets there. so the ability of the QB to function(or lack thereof) is based on how fast the pressure comes and how fast the QB can do their reads. in general, the speed with which the pressure arrives is fairly consistent unless you have a top 5 or 6 line or a bottom 5 or 6 line. if you have a bottom 5 or 6 line, your QB better be lightning quick at getting rid of the ball. cousins played behind a suspect line the last year or two with success but This is not something you typically see. Danny dimes played behind a subpar line. Then when injuries hit it got even worse. to a point where I think it was the worst or second worst line in football and then he got hurt. the line was better and healthier the year prior and so was Danny Dimes performance. No surprise there. they have brought in some players to shore the line up. It is possible that Dimes reverts to be more like the QB of 2 years ago (but with more talent at WR) problem with bringing in new players to a line is sometimes it does take time to learn to work together. so there will likely still be some growing pains but I cannot see it being as bad as it was last year. so while I am not endorsing Danny Dimes, I do think there is a chance the good danny dimes we saw will return if that line is actually improved. He has better weapons, so it could be a fairly dramatic turnaround..... if they have not already ruined Danny dimes as a player to this point.
weepaws 3,006 Posted September 5 Right, pressure does make even the best QBs avg, and good QBs out of the nfl, or backups. But pressure does effect all qbs, Which why Def like to pressure the Qb.
