Fashionable foreigners exposing Ohioans to new culinary experiences

Recommended Posts

Reading social media, it seems like the biggest legitimate issue with the Haitians in Springfield is them causing car accidents (such as the one in the link @jonnyutah shared earlier).   Followed by the duck eating issue.  Violent crime does not really appear to be on the list of complaints from residents.

Probably worth noting that it seems like many of the immigrants are working, as that is why they are there to begin with - from what I can tell businesses in the area brought them there to work in the various manufacturing plants in the area which is pretty centrally located, so the complaint of “they’re just here collecting tax money and not contributing anything” can not be used in this scenario.

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with my work here, but I’d wager that I post the most data of anyone here, and I enjoy analyzing it.  I also plan to vote for Trump.

But I also think the fearmongering about the border is overblown, and the issues that are there are not completely Biden/Harris’s fault.   So considering people are blaming crime on “Biden/Harris’s open border,” yes I’d say it’s relevant when these alleged offenders entered the country.

Nonetheless, let’s have a look at the data you shared.  Thank you for doing that by the way, that’s more than most others do here.

“Violent crime” is broken down into 4 categories: Homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.  Here is the percent change vs 2020 for reports of each:

Homicide: -25% (8 to 6)

Rape: +12% (52 to 58)

Robbery: +27% (107 to 136)

It is being alleged that there are up to 20k Haitians in Springfield which previously had a population of 60k.  Source: https://nypost.com/2024/07/10/us-news/ohio-city-facing-significant-housing-crisis-due-to-migrant-influx/

If the remainder of the population is flat then that would mean the population has increased by 33%, higher than the rate of increase in those 3 types of crime, with homicides of course being down.

But wait, you said it was up 110%.  Oh yeah, forgot aggravated assault.  Those increased by 197% (171 to 507).  Wow, that’s quite the increase, I wonder if there’s something else going on there, maybe a change in how those are defined?  Well whaddaya know, there was:

(Police captain) Moos said that high percentage is not valid, “We have an uptick in violent crime, but that statistic Is directly related to the way data is collected with regard to aggravated assault. What happens is it looks at whether a weapon was just simple present, or someone was injured or both.”  In 2020, the city used a different data gathering system, under which aggravated assault meant a person was assaulted, a weapon was used, and the victim sustained an injury.

Source: https://dayton247now.com/news/local/springfield-sees-an-uptick-in-violent-crime-but-officials-say-51-increase-is-invalid

Let me know when you’d like to apologize, @jonnyutah

That's an article where a woman from the NAACP and the local Police captain want to minimize the crime increases. And yes crime reporting switched from 2020 to 2021 from the  SRS system to the NIBRS system.

And yes aggaravated assault numbers would have gone up due to this change.

According to this the anticipated change was .6%

If you look at the link i provided earlier it showed you the entire state of Ohio. If you look at the change, it barely edged up.

Springfield has sizeable increases both years. Thats not explainable due to data reporting changes, especially when compared to the state data.

This is a lie.  It went from 177 to 477 in 2021 (+179%) and to 507 in 2022 (+6%).

So nearly the entire increase came in 2021.  If not from the reporting change (which seems to be the culprit), this would suggest many of the people committing these crimes likely arrived before 2021.

Let me know when you’d like to apologize.

This link says the anticipated change is based on how reporting is different when multiple crimes are involved.  The quote from the police captain is referring to the definition of aggravated assault specifically, and the way he says “the city” changed systems reads to me like he is referring to a local change and not necessarily a national one.

You are getting played by people with an agenda. Yes i am sure the city made a major reporting change that somehow all you can find info about is a quote in the dayton daily news minimizing the crime increases that he is measured against, lol. Yep. You got it. "Reads to me" lol. Of course it reads to you that way, you want it to be true. You need it to be true.

What he says about aggravated assault is incorrect from the get go. Probably intentional, but maybe because it was new. But aggravated assault has never always required a weapon as he stated. That goes against Ohio state law, and is obviously not what he meant. Which of course explains why there isnt a single link documenting such a policy previously for Springfield.

But if you read the changes from SRS manuals to NIBRS you know exactly the difference the guy is talking about. Quick google snippets...

"The National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) defines aggravated assault as an unlawful attack where the offender uses a weapon or displays it in a threatening manner, or the victim suffers severe bodily injury"

SRS...

"An unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. This type of assault usually is accompanied by the use of a weapon or by means likely to produce death or great bodily harm"

Pretty easy to see he is talking about the crime reporting changes involved here not some other fictitious springfield only super secret unannounced swearsies for real miss reporter.

And obviously the only increase due to reporting would be when a weapon was threatened during an assault but not used. Under new rules that is automatically reported as aggravated assault. That probably happens only like .5% of the time maybe .7%? Just a guess, totally out of thin air. What was the expected increase again? Oh yeah, .6%. Good guess by me there. So close.

Dishonest people in a bind often try to grasp at silly little things like that. Hey policeman why has crime gone up so much, what are you going to do about it??? Hey thats not fair its counted different, please don't probe, please dont probe  please dont probe, yay interview over, yay liberal reporter no follow up!

Lol. This is a lie!!! Crime going up 6%(7.6% for all violent crime) when the state is reporting 5% decline is nothing. Look away, all lies!! Liars! Say youre sorry for reporting these lies!

Now if this was all due to data changes then we should see a decrease in 2021 in simple assault cases to offset. Basically joe friday saying they previously didnt count aggravated assaults unless it was And/and/and. But we see an over ten fold increase in simple assaults from 2020 to 2021*???

Brakes screeching....what??!!!! How can this be? How???

Story as old as the United States itself.....immigrants come in; adjust and become Americans.  Skin color is the primary reason these people are seen as different from the Ohioans complaining.

Yeah, they adjust.  In someone else’s community crowding their schools and using up their resources.  And trashing the place. Fock em, right? You sound like another one of those childless cat ladies.

I'm sure there are some Haitian immigrants that have. I'm sure there are white people, black people, Asian people, hispanic people, and any number of nationalities who have people that have killed pets or other animals.

The story you shared seems like one of those scare tactic things that fly around small towns

Yes, saying “sizeable increases in both years” is a lie when the first year was +179% and the second +6%, especially since it is being alleged that the population has increased 30%+.

Help me keep up with the right wing narratives here though, I thought the claim (including by some of those making recent posts in this thread) was that crime is up significantly nationally, and apparent declines are because municipalities stopped reporting to the FBI.  Now you’re saying crime in the state of Ohio is really down?

I did not mean to suggest that Springfield was the only city that made the change, simply that it might not have been a nationwide change.

Where can one find the data on simple assault?

It is in the same link. 2020 shows only 3 simple assaults. I think we can both agree thats an error, the surrounding years are over a thousand each iirc.

I dont really push the whole municipalities stopped reporting thing.

I never focus on the cleared results or the arrest rates or the other metrics.

I try to go by two datasets and compare them to trends and check them to public reporting. Both involve crime and victim reports because those are the most constant metrics. They are also immune to prosecutorial misconduct, which is rampant.

Sure false reporting happens. False rape reports, false hate crimes, false whatever. Grifters always gonna grift. But in the end those are blips when you get big enough sets and they pale in comparison to the largest gap there is in crime reporting right now. The apathetic victim. The person that gets mugged and goes about their business because they dont want to waste their time on top of what already happened to them.

You will probably brush that off, but it is exactly what formed all of my opinions on crime today. As I spoke to countless victims that never bothered reporting to the police.

Want to see how messed up we are regarding this? Go join a neighborhood facebook page pretty much anywhere in America. Tell people you got your car broken into. Say you are unsure if you locked the door or not, can't remember. Tell them you had your garage door opener in your car and that they stole your tools from your garage.

Watch and see how many people criticize you and dont care at all about your stuff getting stolen. Those are the people voting for the DAs letting everybody go and that is why people dont bother calling the police anymore, but will certainly report they have been robbed when they dont have to be questioned by police.

Found it. It shows 0 total simple assaults from 2012 to 2019

Certainly does seem like there was more to the reporting change in 2021 in Springfield than other places

Running this through the real world translator HT:

watched some 5am church show on TV, got as close as he legally could to a community park without violating the protection orders, then sat at his computer and had some Little Debbie snack cakes and added some more aluminum foil to his rabbit ears so he could get the Giants game on TV.

Boyo. This is the truth.  My sources are telling me AIDS and STD cases are way up. Voodoo is prevalent. This is in addition to eating any domesticated or wild animals they can catch.

So it has been shown this story is pretty fake- or at the very least- based on some weird unconfirmed information.

But yeah- social media is running with it including Elon Musk. So of course the MAGAs are eating it up.....you know like they claim the Haitians are doing to cats.

As usual the left tends to underplay things, the right tends to wildly overplay them

I believe there is evidence they have taken ducks found at a local park.  The stealing people’s pet cats part may be what is being exaggerated
