The same people who deny climate change are now buying the conspiracy theory that these hurricanes are manmade.

No one is saying the Hurricanes are man-made.  Serious question:  Are you mentally ill?

You really should research something before you comment. You might not look so foolisn and uninformed if you do.

Not long after that, social media was flooded with posts from people who knee-jerk believed this conspiracy theory.

Because sound political strategy would be for the party that occupies the White House to create one of history's most destructive hurricanes, targeting swing states where voters might complain about the federal government's disaster response.

Makes total sense.

Why do people (latest I’ve seen is General Mike Flynn) keep claiming there will be thousands of deaths from Helene?

There have been 230 so far (link:https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/fema-administrator-continues-pushback-against-false-claims-as-helene-death-toll-hits-230/ar-AA1rQDrG).

We’re supposed to believe over a week after the storm hit, there’s going to be 10x more deaths than have already been confirmed?

Probably similar to why some claimed that the unjabbed were going to experience a winter of severe illness and death.  To influence the mob through fear to support a cause and then have them influence broader behaviors.

It’s been confirmed now that the Blackhawk helicopter destroyed supplies on purpose. They also have identified who was flying it & the Cajun navy has already said on their official Twitter they’re going after the guy to beat his ass

This thread is gross.

I have some experience with large scale disaster response. You have FEMA, Red Cross, National Guard, state/county/local first responders and law enforcement and ignorant do-gooders all arriving on site simultaneously. Not to mention politicians and journalists. Thousands of residents have had their lives thrown into turmoil. They have huge, legitimate problems and need serious help. The size of the operation is immense, and all of these people and agencies are not in constant communication with each other. It is extremely confusing and complicated.

Those of you that think any large organizations are purposely making things worse for those affected can seriously GFY. If you are that convinced that everyone is a hateful worm intent on nothing more than political malfeasance or personal enrichment then you are a lost soul that has allowed cynicism and hate to take over your life. You are demonizing those trying to help, and you are making that help harder to obtain for those that need it. I can only hope none of you ever have to go through something like that yourselves to open your eyes to the reality that these organizations are trying to help. They are not perfect. They will not solve every problem. They will not save everyone. But things would be far, far worse without them there.

Life is complicated, not a focking X meme.

It's a bunch of dopes like Overkill who live on Twitter so they can be outraged about everything. And then on top of it- it's a bunch of people who have pledged devotion to a dude who wants to make everything as a slight against him. It's not about real people in danger- it's about "how can we make this about Trump"

How many disasters does it take before they decide to be in constant communication and put in protocols to keep it from being so confusing?

How come there are reports from people like Musk that just want to drop off Starlink to people so they can be in communication are being told they can't?

I mean Mayorkis gave a foking speech complaining about not having enough money for Christ sake.  That's not confusing or complicated, that's incompetence.

I don't know, maybe once all of us have neuro-fitted cell phones and/or telepathy? Why don't you tell me how a few dozen organizations, all under different leadership with different missions arriving at different times and places should all coordinate? Especially given that top priorities are not administrative; you need boots on the ground moving across unfamiliar territory. Every disaster is different and a template only goes so far.

Why can't Musk land Starlink stuff? There's almost always a good reason that he's either not aware of or is purposely not mentioning. I'm sure the world's richest and second most egomaniacal human can't fathom being told no, for one thing. There was a sensitive rescue operation underway, or supplies needed to be delivered, or an "important person" was en route. Potential reasons are endless. It's not like the government told him to fuk off; they still got their Starlink.

It's not Mayorkas' fault that FEMA is running out of money. Talk to congress about that. Or those bastards running the weather machine that keeps cranking out storms to make politicians look bad.

If one has never been a part of something like that they have no concept of how complicated it is.

Standards for Operations and Protocol. Not that hard, military does it all the time. It's too complicated sounds like an excuse to me.

Glad you brought up the military because the quote "no battle plan survives contact with the enemy" is adroit in disaster prep as well. And the military is usually dealing with military issues. A natural disaster is probably a tougher logistical operation than most combat.

Why is it that people bltch about FEMA every time there's a disaster regardless of who is in charge? Because they don't understand the complexity of what is being done, and have unrealistic expectations about their capabilities.

I notice a distinct lack of understanding of complex and nuanced issues amongst MAGA. Your information gathering and dissemination is limited to tag lines and memes. Not you though. You're smart.

FEMA sucks because it's a bunch of people who talk about work instead of actually doing work, so of course, they don't know how to handle logistics.

90% of the time they're sitting on their asses.  Then when a disaster strikes they go in and try to coordinate and they suck at it.

How hard is it to practice setting up a distribution center under various access conditions?  Do they even do that?  Or do they just write plans?

They're fine when taken for what they are. MAGA thinks they're the news, the Bible, and a comprehensive policy guide combined.

Thanks.  I figure it had to be some military group; most people probably don't have a Chinook in their garage.

In the aftermath of Katrina, helicopters literally took over the sky’s. Most came from the Naval air station in Belle Chase. Constantly day and night. Mostly military bringing in supplies and load up carrying dirt with large sand bags to fill the destroyed levees to stop the influx of the flooding. What was carrying those large sand bags, Chinooks. I got so good at recognizing the sound of there blade noise, I could  close my eyes and know what type it was. Good times…not!

Please. You don’t know what you’re talking about. The insurance companies constantly trying to put responsibility on the other. Insurance companies are responsible for wind an hail damages. Roof gets blown off and water leaks from the roof and causes damage, they are responsible for that. FEMA handles the flood damage. If water rises from the ground up, and floods a dwelling, that’s their responsibility for the flood damage. They both suck. Unrealistic? Let me know when you go through these nightmares and get back to me.
