Sober October, anyone doing this?

Recommended Posts

Not me, exactly.  I've got several events which involve drinking planned for the month.  I'm planning to do more of a "Damp October," like the concept of Damp January vs. Dry January.

Quote

January often serves as a reset for drinking and eating habits.

For some, that means partaking in Dry January, a popular trend that encourages participants to completely give up alcohol for 31 days.

In recent years, however, a watered-down version of Dry January has emerged known as Damp January.

With Damp January, participants are encouraged to drink less than they normally would instead of quitting completely. Some say this more relaxed approach may allow for greater adherence and could even help you improve your drinking habits in the long term.

When a new year beckons, it can be tempting to take an all-or-nothing approach to your goals.

However, while going cold turkey allows you to establish firm boundaries around alcohol use, being too strict with yourself can set you up to fail and, in some cases, result in drinking even more than before.

So, if you’re hoping to improve your relationship with alcohol in the long term, starting with a Damp January may be a more effective approach.

https://www.healthline.com/health-news/dry-january-too-dry-for-you-try-damp-january-instead#:~:text=Some people partake in Dry,of quitting alcohol cold turkey.

My general plan is as follows:

- No drinking at home during the week, other than special events (like, my anniversary celebration dinner on or near 10/9).  I don't drink every night, but some nights, like during MNF tonight.

- Less drinking on the weekend nights.  Keep it to three drinks max.  Weekend is Fri/Sat/Sun.

Seems doable.  Anyone with me?  Or have other plans?

I wouldn't worry about it unless your wife asks you to observe it.

I'm courageously stepping up for "The 2/3 Challenge."

Every day this month, I vow to abstain from booze for a crazy 16 hours Per Day.

It'll be a challenge. Wish me luck!!

These kinds of things are so focking stupid and made up and pointless. Sorry I even found out about this. I don't even drink much, but If I want to or if I was I'm not adjusting because of some made up "don't do this this month" focking retarded thing.

The idea for Sober October originated in Australia as "Oc-Sober" by Life Education, a health organization. The UK-based charity Macmillan Cancer Support later popularized the phrase "Sober October".

If you don't drink much, it's not for you.  Thanks for your poignant opinion anyway.

super bowl?  Pu55y

I get tore down on conference championship Sunday, my favorite football week, but I equate the Super Bowl to New Year's Eve - Amateur Night. It's all geared towards women, homos, and commericals. No Thanks.

Haven't had a drink in 2 and half years, was a 20 beers or more a day drinker, I tried for years the only on weekends or football nights and etc. for years and could never hold to any of it for long over the years. Cold Turkey is the only thing that worked and is working for me. Good luck to all trying this though and in my opinion might as well just keep drinking and say F  it or cut it our completely if that is your goal. You really can't have your cake and eat it too when it comes to alcohol if you been a heavy drinker over the years.
