You'd be amazed at how well the Chinese government handled COVID.... I mean after they royally screwed up badly in the beginning. I hate to begrudgingly give them props because they ruined my life in other ways, but on COVID, it was largely a non-issue. And then our timing to return to the US, was when it had become largely a non-issue here. So our family was, maybe singularly, was the least affected by COVID hysteria of all families on the planet.

It was kind of like my war experience... Desert Shield/Storm... it was more or less a big camping trip and so I really caught a break so far as experiencing war violence or PTSD trauma goes.
