Trump didn’t have a settlement, he claims it’s a lie, these payments were hidden. That this was election interference is debatable, but don’t see how one can argue he wasn’t trying to hide this for any other reason. Those are differences. Not sure how this isn’t clear. It being a political winning issue is a separate issue. No, that's clear, but you still don't get my message. Here, let me try a different way. If there were different differences, NY would have found a way to turn those into slightly different but still creative felonies, and you'd be here arguing that (different differences) are what's really important$#@! But if you are asking if any politician in the history of ever has paid off concubines as hush money... Ima say yes. Bill Clinton with Paula Jones? The best is probably John Edwards though. Good read on it: https://www.businessinsider.com/john-edwards-last-presidential-candidate-charged-with-campaign-finance-violations-2023-3 This quote sums it up nicely: And that wasn't the highly biased, partisan scenario laid out in the op ed, including a DA who campaigned on getting Trump. Look, I get it, you've chugged the blue kool aid on this, and honestly think Trump should be punished for 34 felonies. It'll be particularly hard for folks like @Death and @squistionto no longer be able to call Trump a 34-time convicted felon, once the case is dismissed. I'll keep calling him a convicted felon regardless, because that's what he is. A jury of his peers - including a MAGA on the panel - unanimously found him guilty. I don't have an issue with putting all those cases behind us and moving forward. The optics are not good. Let's see if Trump can show some class and restraint by not launching a bunch of frivolous investigations into Biden and anyone else who has opposed or disagreed with him. He has more important issues to address.

As I read it, in NY you are convicted upon receiving the verdict. Quote NY Criminal Procedure Law 1.20(13)-(15) 13. “Conviction” means the entry of a plea of guilty to, or a verdict of guilty upon, an accusatory instrument other than a felony complaint, or to one or more counts of such instrument. 14. “Sentence” means the imposition and entry of sentence upon a conviction. 15. “Judgment.” A judgment is comprised of a conviction and the sentence imposed thereon and is completed by imposition and entry of the sentence. ETA: I think I read in CA that it's when sentencing has been completed that you are convicted---so it varies.

Those cases would be brought by hard-core Republican prosecutors, before juries and judges in deeply Republican counties. The justices of the State Supreme Courts would have all been selected in partisan elections. Every single one is a Republican. That would seem outrageous. It’s such a sad commentary on where we are at as a society that: a) fair minded Democrats couldn’t see the simple, undeniable bias in that prosecution b) courts of law - I don’t care how Liberal they were in nature- actually ruled on it c) the media - specifically The NY Times - only acknowledged this after Trump won the election in a landslide. In fact, her best friend that she said she went to the party with said she didn't remember the party or ever meeting Kavanaugh. The only "evidence" she had was that she told a therapist 30 years later but IIRC she didn't give a name. All the actual evidence was exculpatory.
