To be fair, I think we can all know that Marty had already made the decision to go back to 1885 before they knew Doc died. I don't think so, in the movie, the letter Doc wrote he asked them to "respect my wishes", repair the Delorean, and return to 1985. He loved shoeing horses and fixing wagons, wonderful way to spend my retirement years. It wasn't until they saw the tombstone, and Doc said "What kind of a future do you call that?", then Marty said, "Once you repair the Delorean, I'm going back to 1885 and bringing you home" Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
