‘Narco sub’ bound for Australia seized in massive international operation that netted 1,400 metric tons of drugs

Six so-called “narco subs” stuffed with cocaine were captured in a Colombian-led international anti-drug operation, authorities in the Latin American nation said Wednesday, as part of a huge global bust.

The mission, involving 62 countries, seized more than 1,400 metric tons of drugs – mostly marijuana – between October 1 and November 14, according to Vice Adm. Orlando Enrique Grisales, chief of naval operations staff for the Colombian Navy.

Among the haul was 225 metric tons of cocaine, 5 tons of which was found aboard a semi-submersible vessel plying a marine trafficking route from Colombia to Australia, he said.

I have no clue what it takes to produce cocaine, but it must be so cheap that if you can afford to build those narco-submersibles that can travel halfway around the world and still make huge profits.

Drug running is hugely profitable. I wonder how many of these subs are engaged in the activity.

@Engorgeous George did you see this?

Looks like they only confiscated marching powder headed to the Aussies. Supply lines to the Rockies and upper midwest will hopefully continue full bore.

I mean what would the holidays be without any snow?

225 metric tons.  that is 225,000,000 grams of blow if it is not cut.  Maybe twice that cut.    That is more or less a heavy party weekend for the U.S back in the 80's

I have often wondered why trafficers do not load plastic tubes which do not have a big sonar signature with coke and tow them behind slow moving boats looking like trawlers.  Seems to me that the loads could be released if boarding were imminent, and in many areas in the caribbean at least, the waters might well be shallow enough to recover the loads if they GPS'd where they cut them loose.

There were still 225 tons of coke in all the seizures-that seems like a lot to me.  Maybe not to @Engorgeous Georgewho was getting invited to some pretty wild parties back in the day, but to me it sounds like a lot.
