weepaws 3,062 Posted November 30, 2024 That Zona sign 29 year old Conner to a two year extension, that’s not good news for Benson owners, or for redraft leagues next season. I thought with the addition of Benson Through the draft this would be Conners last season with Zone.

I suspect they want him to mentor the kid a bit. having your stud RB learn a year or so before you fully unleash him isnt a terrible thing. you dont want him fully spent before the team becomes fully competitive. I dont know how much of that contract was guaranteed, but if I were a betting man I'd guess 1 year is guaranteed and the second year not.

We've seen in the past that Conner has had aa penchant to get injured although he has held up well this year. Even if Conner is the #1 back next year I think you'll.see Benson involved a lot more. He will have a good grasp of the offensive scheme and his passion protection should get better as well. I think he'll easily get 10 plus touches a game to start the season and once he starts producing the touches will increase. I don't wish injury on any player yet if Conner gets dinged then Benson will have the backfield all to himself. Even if Conner stays relatively healthy I think both backs can be fantasy relevant.

Yeah I fully agree. most likely Conner's last year as a starter is next season. and I dont know that he will be starter for the full year, but I think he will be for at least a part of the year. if his contract is 2 years with one guaranteed, they will probably use him for what they can, and then (likely late in the season) the transition will begin. they will give Benson more touches. if they feel he is ready they may cut Conner loose on the second year of that contract. or they keep him for part of the year as an insurance policy. I think it really depends on a lot of things. if you pay full value based on this years stats, I'd agree fully. you need to apply a discount for the possibility that he loses some touches to Benson. The hard part is in the event that the team transitions from him to Benson mid season, you could find yourself short a RB (unless you draft both) and if Benson can be had in the late rounds, then yeah take Conner and take Benson a round earlier than you likely need to as an insurance policy (or a high end RB4 if you will) nothing wrong with taking on a little risk so long as you take steps to mitigate that risk if you can. weepaws 3,062 Posted December 7, 2024 Risky situation taking any one of those players on a pretty avg offense.
