TGL starts tonight. Is that Tiger's Golf League? Tonight 9 pm on ESPN

And to clarify I’m only hating on it because it’s being hyped so hard after the LIV hate.

on its own I could see where it has entertainment value and I’m usually in favor of new formats.

honest assessment is that I’d probably get bored of watching this after a season.

They are playing the same course as last week. They will need to change tracks week to week to keep my attention.

Why only 15 holes?  Is this a new beginning of trimming time off a round of golf?

9 holes of 3 vs 3 and 6 of 1 v 1.

Sadly, I was all in and I don't think I will be watching anymore.

I did see that live. Was hilarious. He would have skulled a dude in row 5 😂😂

If I am running this thing, Tiger is getting an Ace in a couple weeks in a premier spot. Once the ball hits the screen who really knows what happens.

Exactly. It is quite literally not real golf.
I enjoy seeing them interact but part of the reason I tuned in last night was the team of Tiger Kisner and Homa seemed like the best trio to talk shiit and get in their opponents heads. Sadly wasn’t much good banter even early on before it was a blowout.

And the pumping of the celeb owners and audience is very annoying.

Yeah. I’m about the same. I did watch and was texted with my golf group about it and a few of them were also watching.

Long term it doesn’t seem viable to make money IMO, but the setup was bad ass. Really impressive tech.

The two biggest names in the sport "created" it, ESPN is on board, they have celeb owners they can trot into the booth and it's in a comfy arena where more celebs will sit in the stands like they are at an NBA game. I think it is set up to print money for the guys lucky enough to get invited.... at least initially. Long term, you may be right.

I'd be way more interested if each team had a home course and they were playing actual golf.  But I guess they felt stadium/trackman/prime time trumped that.

I'd love to see it be inclusive of LIV players, and maybe it would have been if it were up to the players only, but it's in partnership with the PGA so that will never happen. Imagine a team that had Phil and Bryson.... maybe one with Rahm and Sergio.   Up it to 8 teams, "regular season" matches to determine seeding for a bracket style playoff and championship.

I do like that each team has 4 but only plays 3. Maybe it would have been more interesting if Tom Kim was playing instead of Kisner last night .  I do not like that there are no carry overs. Seems much less likely for a team to catch up, even with the hammer.

Yeah like all golf stuff the audience is just too limited is where I’m coming from as far as making money. I’ll def check out more but won’t make it a point and I’m a fairly hardcore fan.

To your point I will watch those showdown things they do every few months in real courses. This last one wasn’t close but I enjoyed it.

I like the Ryder Cup. I was fine with LIV.   I'm talking about all the golf fans who were anti LIV and one of the things they always said was the format was stupid. Not just shotgun start but the teams.

Now Tiger and Rory created team golf with a bunch of gimmicks and its all good 😆

Seems like an apples to oranges comparison.   I know LIV is your baby and all.  But this is a for fun weeknight when nothing is on show.  They arent acting like its some legit league alternative.

For the record I havent caught any of this.

For the record, LIV is not my baby. I just happen to defend it because the PGA is/was very hypocritical... and I think I was proven correct by all their reactionary moves.

I am still a PGA tour fan and mostly watch that, not LIV. My feeling is you don't have to actually like something to accept it's validity.

Same goes for TGL. I watched the whole match last night. I sort of get where you are coming from in the sense that these guys are not breaking away from the PGA, but they do seem to be touting it as a legitimate golf league. It's not like "The Match". You've got 6 golf clubs with team ownership, merchandise, a schedule etc.

I havent paid much attention to this thus far.  I may turn it on if I catch it when I am sitting in the couch on weekday night looking for something.

Is Kisner asking for OWGR points yet?

Flipping through the tube last night, I came across this…. Decided to watch a couple of shots….  Completely changed my mind on this…. Can’t believe this crap is actually on TV…

I watch PGA golf pretty regularly (I generally have a good amount of FD action), including ESPN+ coverage starting on thursday morning weekly. I tried to watch this, but its not clicking with me. Maybe its indoors, the simulator, or the fact that Rickie Fowler is transitioning to a lesbian but this league is not for me.

Agreed.   Just kinda boring.   The tech is cool...but that's it.  And Tiger is old news

simulator golf is fun to play, boring to watch.  I watched the entire thing this week (none of the first match) and there are so many shots hit into the green where the sim angle is very awkward and focuses on just the ball not the pin/green.  I found myself thinking someone had just hit it 10 feet away and it was 30 or thinking it was 30-40 feet long and they had an 8 foot putt.  Not unlike my own experience with indoor golf 😆

I watched last night and could hardly stomach this. A bunch of already rich players playing for nothing substantial is not why I watch golf. I like full field events with a cut where even the elite in the game have to earn their standing by actually making that cut. A bunch of guys just out playing for fun doesn't do much for me.

I hate LIV, been even more, I hate how the PGA Tour has reacted to it. Like Wonder said, the PGA Tour is trying to copy something that isn't enjoyable in the first place. Golf actually had most everything right and has royally screwed the fan over the last few years by presenting us with this watered-down, no pressure, product. I hate that the sport has been splattered in the name of greed.

Was out at dinner and it was on the TV right in my view. I thought it was just a bunch of guys screwing around at a sim like I have in the past.  Got boring real fast. A one hour special once a year maybe.

Although the Sim would be fun to play on it was not very entertaining.

Glad you chimed in on this. I don't think golf had most everything right. I mean, as fans... prior to LIV... it may have seemed that way. But clearly there were issues with the way the PGA was running things, as a golf monopoly of sorts and how it was treating it's players, including it's stars. I don't think LIV happens otherwise. And once it did, we saw the curtain pulled back a bit on the PGA. All the reactionary moves and purse increases which they claimed they didn't have.

I also prefer 4 rounds of golf with a cut. But I do still support the idea that a new tour like LIV can be valid with just 3 rounds and no cut... provided it has some sort of relegation system. I fully believe they should earn world ranking points. ...  and I do think, of all their gimmicks, that there might be a place for team or "club" golf within the sport. I don't think its surprising that this is the main element TGL copied.

Don't get me wrong. I never said the PGA Tour had most everything right. Far from it and your points are valid. I just believe golf should be a complete meritocracy. No catering to "stars" with respect to setting up tournaments with no cuts and reduced fields. Part of the appeal of golf to some fans (fans like me I guess) is that you had to go out and earn it. I didn't mind fields being reduced to 120 in special events. But 65-70 with no cut? That's just plain dumb. To each their own on the team aspect, I guess. I think it's ridiculous outside of the Ryder/President's Cup, but again, that's just me.

Again, I never meant to imply the PGA Tour had everything right. I was just saying that as a fan, I had everything I needed and didn't need the boat to be rocked, or in this case, capsized.

I’m now 1-1 betting on this after Bay beat Boston. (I had wagered on Tigers teams first match because of their + odds and they got embarrassed). Would have been 2-1 if I realized today was a triple header. I would have bet Bay over Atlanta.

I’ll make small wagers on lots of things to make them entertaining but as someone else said, I think earlier in this thread, absolutely wouldn’t surprise me if there was some fixing of the full shots since you have no idea once the ball hits the screen. Could just be the skeptic in me haha

I’m trying to like it I really am… if they were playing a Tuesday money match, they would have thrown the hammer there on hole 4 and put Tigers team down 5-0 through 4 holes. But they don’t want Tigers team getting demolished to the point the holes don’t matter anymore.

they should all be playing for 1 million of all their own money and be able to press when the match is out of reach

I think his problem is the walking, especially at venues that are hilly.

He could also have more money at stake in TGL and is just a lazy fock.
