I am no fan of the Dept of Education, which has become an oxymoron.

I do believe that results matter, and the ongoing decrease in overall student performance cannot be overlooked; nor can the deplorable performance among minority communities, well, not Asians of course.

I think teachers mostly work pretty hard, and do their best.

I think the problem is too many of the kids are just sh!t.......utter and absolute sh!t.    They have sh!tty parents and the kids become worthless as a result.   You cannot simply send your kid off to school and expect them to achieve success, it requires the application of accountability at home for both behavior AND schoolwork.

IMHO, its the parents that need to be fixed/

This is a problem that can't be fixed.  American's are too entitled/spoiled.  It's the same as with healthcare.  The solution is simple, no one wants to actually do it.  The solution is to fail the kids.  Kids failing is more of an indictment on the parents than the kids.  If the kid fails, the parents need to be more involved.  Schools are going to do that though.  They may fail a class or some bs in high school which won't matter (example below), but in the earlier years, schools just pass the kids.

In school, if you fail 2 classes in any year, you fail.  In high school, that doesn't matter much because he two classes you may fail, may not matter.  Meaning, if you're only required 2 or 3 years of a subject, you have the ability to make them up and still graduate with everyone else.  Your "grade level" is paper work only.  You don't have to actually repeat a grade like you would in elementary or middle school.

I was listening to Brandon Sanderson writing lecture on youtube. He talked about the difference between Surrender vs I give up.

A high class person would say, "I surrender"

A low class person would say, "I give up"

If you haven't listened to it, you should check it out. He just put out the latest class.

I've heard that Sanderson puts out stuff on writing, and some day I plan to try to write a fantasy novel.  But his own books are so $#@! long and I read at a slow/infrequent pace, so I would never finish them.

My daughter is a voracious reader who reads freakishly fast.  She loves Sanderson.  I forget which series she is reading now.

Sanderson is also good friends with Patrick Rothfuss IIRC, and I have read Rothfuss' "The Name of the Wind," but I'm not going to read the second book until he puts out the third and final book.  I don't need another GOT unfinished story.

Anyway, thanks for the rec, I'll check it out.

Who are you?  You have 1400+ posts so you've obviously posted here before.  But I don't recognize you.

Anyway, drink some cranberry juice and stop threatening to report people.

I knew it would take longer than a couple months.  It doesn't matter much to me since prices were already high and were not going to get lower with the democrats.

You think they're going lower under Trump? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not sure.  They probably won't lower regardless of who's President.  It's not my top concern.

IDK, shouldn’t there be a plan in place before we get rid of all this stuff?

How did our country function without all of it in the first place?

there is ZERO point to this dept

This is certainly not true. Here is a list of items that contradict your statement:

You may disagree with some or all but that’s not the same as “zero point.”

One of my daughters teaches special ed at an elementary school. The Department of Education provides funding for those students (mostly autistic.) Are you in favor of cutting off those funds?

The DOE doesn’t provide funding to anyone anywhere. They allocate funding. Why are you such a little lamb?

Do you think it’s important to allocate such funding?

Yes funds can be acquired a different way. Via the state or another part of the federal govt.  don’t need a special dept for that

Yes. And I think California can do it themselves with their tax dollars.

Sure. We’re a wealthy state. The wealthiest in fact. Not every state can afford to do this. Don’t you think autistic students in West Virginia deserve funding?

Do you know anyone that expected inflation and grocery prices to drop instantly?  Let's use some common sense here.

Between the bird flu and panicked people buying up all the eggs, it's the perfect storm of supply and demand that will drive prices through the roof, which means higher prices at restaurants. Waffle House already is charging more for eggs. Add to that the tariffs, and grocery prices won't be coming down anytime soon. Quite the opposite.

Trump will regret mentioning eggs in his campaign speeches.

People falsely blamed the previous administration for inflation, and now we have presidential actions that actually will create inflation.

More and more, I'm starting to regret voting for this guy with each passing day and new round of craziness.

Take over Gaza?

Yeesh, bruh.

Yup. And WV can do it with their tax dollars instead of sending them to DC first and asking for permission to have it back. So long as they do what the feds say.

No, WV can’t afford to do that. They don’t have the money for programs such as these. If we’re going to do it we all have to pay for it.
Which leads us back to the Department of Education. Maybe it’s not such a bad thing after all?

It’s a failure Tim. There’s no getting around it. And I’m confident the good people of WV will prioritize the neediest of their children.

Relegating education to the states and getting rid of big government. Better for education when there is less bureaucracy.

Obviously I don’t agree. But if you think it should be abolished, that should be done by an act of Congress, not by executive order.

I understand why people feel that way but at some point it's time to act like an adult.  That can be hard to do when our President can't even act like one though.
