LIBERATION DAY: New tariffs on ALL imports begin April 2

New York CNN:

South Korea-based Hyundai and President Donald Trump announced a $20 billion investment in US on-shoring on Monday, which includes a $5 billion steel plant in Louisiana, at the White House Monday.

The $5.8 billion Louisiana facility will be the car manufacturers’ first full steel manufacturing facility in the US and will produce more than 2.7 million metric tons of steel a year and create more than 1,400 jobs. It will supply the steel to auto plants in Alabama and Georgia.

The announcement this afternoon at the White House included Trump, Hyundai Chairman Euisun Chung and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.

Well that sounds great! But so did the Foxconn deal in Wisconsin, until it wasn't. I wonder what sort of gigantic tax breaks and benefits will be offered to some of these companies that will make a really excellent show of investment stateside up until the point they no longer have to. Seems like a giant shell game to me. But I am admittedly biased.

Japan will be economically devastated by these tariffs:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/03/27/japan-auto-industry-trump-tariffs/

Economic instability in Japan and other countries will lead to political turmoil as well. There’s going to be a lot of unforeseen consequences to this, none of them good. We are choosing, very deliberately, to upend the world order which has brought this nation great prosperity for the last 80 years.

America has never been great I’m told.

These tarrifs are the biggest story right now in the news. Way more important than anything else going on in my estimation. Biggest thing since Covid and possibly bigger in terms of the long term effects on all of us.

Speak for yourself.

I like what Trump is doing with the tariffs and I've moved on. Life is good.

You can linger in your own pain and keep trying to make others feel like you do but it's just not working. If you are bringing down the people around you on a daily basis like you try to do here, then that's on them. :dunno:

Lol “you’ve moved on”. You haven’t even begun to see the effects in your own life yet. You likely won’t for months to come. When you start to notice it will be too late for you. And me and everyone.

You are proving my point. Go try to scare someone else. Fear mongering is an ugly habit that you liberals are pushing. It doesn't work on the intelligent.

I win. You lose.

CNN economist just now: by this time next year every new car in this country will be $5,000- $10,000 more expensive.

I am not trying to fear monger here. I’m just looking at what is likely to happen. We are going to face higher prices on virtually all products, which will lead to less spending and more unemployment. Those in favor of this seem to believe this is short term pain for long term prosperity. I think it’s short term pain for longer term greater pain.

Just by your attitude and views in life you lose.

And I'm set for the future. Sorry you can't do anything about that. :dunno:

Nameless CNN economist.  That's like the MSM and their "anonymous sources."  I shall give it the appropriate amount of attention it deserves.  *YAWN*

In other news, more MS-13 gang members arrested.   WOO HOO!!!!!

Maybe we can combine the two problems.  We can provide a trariff credit for every illegal other countries will voluntarily take in.

Why bother? Trump puts tariffs on all goods 4/2 it’s basically a coin flip he takes them off within a day or 2. That’s the kind of steady leadership we get with this admin.

What's to talk about? You have 21 pages of useless fear mongering. Why are you adding more? Everyone knows you are scared Tim guy.

Pretty good analysis of the immediate effects of the tariffs from Associated Press:

https://apnews.com/article/trump-new-tariffs-liberation-day-import-taxes-118d73f50e5133ef3d9598aed6661a6c

One hopeful line:

“It is also possible that the tariffs are short-lived if Trump feels he can get a deal after imposing them.”

Fine. Let Trump get his deal, proclaim victory. Let his fans cheer him on. So long as the tariffs are ahort-term I don’t care.

Oh, the pain timmy is in is simply awesome to watch unfold.

He's playing the 'cover his ass' game already for when he knows Trump will keep winning over and over again. 😆

More good analysis:

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/31/business/trump-tariffs-higher-prices.html

In essence President Trump is making the same mistake that leftists do when they call for austerity methods to combat climate change: leftists like AOC think the public is willing to accept hardships in the name of the environment. Trump thinks the public is willing to accept hardships in the name of nationalism. The public won’t accept either. The public doesn’t like pain in exchange for some nebulous goal.

If you are a conservative reading this please understand: unless Trump can be talked out of these tarrifs all of the reasons you voted for him will be for naught. Everything else that he is trying to do, that you voted for, will be swept aside because these tariffs will bring about much misery followed by a Democratic landslide.

We're still getting big tax cuts for the rich right?

Your predictions are always spot on.

That dude is literally an emotional wreck. I'm betting he's bordering bankruptcy.  And wishing it on others so he's not so alone.

Thanks for your concern but I’m doing fine. And I don’t wish others to suffer either including you. I want everyone to do well. Unfortunately we are staring at an economic catastrophe of our own design. Completely unnecessary.

Confirmed.

Oh Fock off already.
Im not predicting the end of the world. I’m predicting bad economic times and a lot of unnecessary suffering, until Trump reverses himself (which hopefully will be soon.)

I have no concern for you failing. You have already failed. And now you are scared that you'll be broke in days. I'm glad for that actually.

You are on the wrong side of everything that is good for this country.
