Supreme Court rules that Trump cannot stop foreign aid

Recommended Posts

This is a great result; the guardrails are creaky but intact. Hopefully it will lead to more limitations on President Trump’s attempt to consolidate too much power in the White House. Maybe next we can challenge his ability to break solemn treaties by enacting tariffs?

Less great is that 4 judges clearly don't understand the law.

An executive order should wipe that slate clean quickly enough.

Where in the constitution does it say the US needs to take care of the rest of the world? Hint: Nowhere.

Article 1 Section 9 puts Congress in charge of the purse strings.

You just love you some unelected black-robbed bastard who want to pretend he is president.  This judge has no authority and did not even vouch for the legitimacy of any of these payments.   It is just a bunch of wasteful and abusive spending given to a bunch of left-wing extremists groups who will enrich themselves.   I am so focking sick of bootlickers.  Good thing this is the last year this crap is going to happen.

There are foreign aid payments owed under existing contracts that were entered into before Trump took office. The judge does not the have the right to determine the legitimacy of these payments.

There should be a law in our country that says if anyone in this country needs aid, that will, at all times, take precedence over foreign aid. And I'm not talking about stupid lazy people on drugs or who don't want to work for a living.

This is an unfortunate setback to be sure.  I hope that the waste and abuse of our tax money continues to be highlighted though.  Maybe there are other means we can end the abuse of our tax money? Can they perhaps just tariff the living sh@t out of those receiving the money and coerce them into returning it? I would welcome that.

I think he should look at how Biden defied it, and consider modelling that approach to flout the SCOTUS. At the very least it would be fun to see liberals suddenly pretend that is wrong.....

Biden never defied the court.  He simply found other legal means.  The "Other means" for Trump is to go through Congress to stop this funding but he's not interested in following the law.

Sure, finding "other means" is just how we get around the law, so I hope that Trump is able to stop the abuse of our tax dollars......by..." some other means".....works for me

The new tariffs are 1000x than the old tariffs.  Try being honest.

As long as it's legal, then it will be unfortunate but at least it would show he might still have some respect for the rule of law.  Would be a welcome change from him and the Repoublican party.

Which would be passed on to consumers in this country as with all other tariffs.

Like the supreme court decision or not, I am always going to be thankful to live in a three-tiered system when it comes to government that offers checks and balances on power. May it always be so.

SCOTUS rules Biden couldn't forgive student loans under the HEROES Act, so Biden found other means to partially forgive loans where he could.

The SCOTUS doesn't have the authority to say "Biden can't forgive student loans".  All he has to do is pass a law to do it or do it under existing laws.

not surprised head in the sand Maga didn't know that though

First off nobody wrote tariffs will destroy the country so no you didn’t hear it as well. What you heard is that the new tariffs on Mexico and Canada will seriously hurt our economy. You heard that not just here but all over the place from liberal and conservative economists alike.
Second these new tariffs are 10 times the size of the previous tariffs so what Biden did isn’t relevant. You know this because we’ve discussed it before and you acknowledged it. You’re repeating statements and arguments that you know to be untrue.

Biden or any president does NOT have the authority to forgive debt of an individual thru a private party

Of course, that's the way Government works.

The far worse scenario is if he defies the court then we have a constitutional crisis.

You’re making no sense here. You have made reasonable arguments in the past but now you appear to simply be petulant and in favor of whatever Trump wants. There is no longer any logic to your statements, IMO.

He's standing on the right side of logic in this case.

No he isn’t and in any case you’re incapable of making that judgment. You’ve never shown the ability to define any issue beyond “Trump is right and the libs are wrong.” Nobody expects you to go any deeper than that so carry on.

Like most MAGA folks he doesn't seem to understand how tariffs really work (and there will be a rude awakening for this crowd in the coming weeks unless Trump reverses course).
