I will start doing it again for the Masters. This event for me is like trying to hit a grand slam with the bases empty. Very few multi time winners over the years. I drafted a team that I would like to see win, but I’m not mad if I come in last or near last place and get a top 3 pick for the green jacket that has been sitting in my Amazon cart for 6 years now.

When I finally win the EdEx masters I will buy that jacket, sport it with no shirt underneath, and post a pic for you guys.

Quick glance I like WW Pats and Skids teams.

I would say Ed holds the worst team.

You did well, buddy. You will see after a few tournaments we all have “our guys” and we all have guys we don’t draft. You gave us a good curveball in that you didn’t draft the way ed would have. That could be good or bad- ed is capable of winning an event running away and he is also capable of pulling up the rear.

Cloaca has the best name value team lol

was he making those last few picks or was that auto pick on ranks?

He’s always been a Max Homa guy. Max used to be good for the California swing but once they go to Florida he tails off. He also switched from Titelist to Cobra this year and from what I’ve seen so far looks like a guy that will be fighting for a card when his exemptions run out.

A guy I miss being on the top half of the draft board is Webb Simpson. What happened to him?

One of the first things I observed when I joined is that Cloaca almost always takes the highest ranked/odds guy.  The drafters around him try to get sneaky, and somebody good drops to him.  That seems like his strategy in general, anyway. :dunno:

Yep. Some of us including myself try to get cute and sneaky, he takes the best guy there

That said and I hate to give away strategy, but you will never see me draft Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, Xander, or Hovland again. They are on my sh1t list.

Interesting.  Hovland won me my first major; the PGA back in 23 (he came in second I think, but I won, and that's all that matters).  Similarly I've had good results with Xander and Cantlay, although I wouldn't draft Xander at his current slot until he shows he is back.  JT, I don't know if he's burned me, but I've watched him underperform enough to generally pass unless he drops to sufficient value.

Next year. Maybe. Still a lot going on.

My advise: Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, Xander, or Hovland.

If Hovland can get the putter right he is a great pick this week.

reason I asked if cloaca was making his own picks was because they felt like cloaca guys but also felt like it could be an odds chart. Then again, homa was way down there these days

Ed sent me his number and this week I texted him when he was on deck. I was polite and whatnot with my messaging opposed to ed that said - you’re up fockface

Guys like HOV and Zal I have a fandom for and they always look like good bets.  This week they both sit 70 to 1 and its hard not betting them.  They are such good ball strikers you can see them winning any event as long as the putter or chipper doesnt lose 4 strokes.  But at the moment they both just seem like 2 guys who cant all the way put it together for 4 days.  It was hard to take Spieth over those 2 but went for it.

It may skew it since he only played 2 days.  But at the API the HOV lead by a margin in approach.  He was 8th overall in tee to green.  He actually almost broke even chipping.  He was just 2nd worst in putting losing over 3 shots in 2 days on the greens.  HOV has been a good putter.  But now he is waffling on putters.  He tinkers a lot.  Not sure I understand why pros make such changes like its a Saturday afternoon drunken 4 some.

I skipped HOV with those stats.  But it was also a reason I took English last.  He was the guy who was worse than HOV on the greens last week.  He was pretty good ball striking but couldnt putt.  And putting is a strength of his.

This format is a little tougher to pick than I had originally thought.  Tough to pick between form, course fit, and just overall player ability.  You have like 5 guys you could take at any one pick and weighing those things can be a crapshoot.  I dont really have a style when it comes to golf betting.  More just gut with those 3 things factored in but betting losing golf outrights isnt as juggling for me.  Not as indecisive as some guys I just refuse to bet.

Hov also just hates his game right now and is vocal about it. Not even just the putting. I think if Zal catches a halfway decent putting week he is a great bet.
but then Hov has a bit of a track record here so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not that the Players is an easy venue.  Its quite volatile.  Some players will look like they are playing the hardest course on earth.  Some players will put up several good rounds and winner will be around 16 under.

I just like Zal, at least for outright bets to win, on tougher courses to par.  I could see him doing well here. Hard time seeing him winning this one.

HOV is the one I feel has much more ability to go low.  Because generally he has been a good putter.  So if his ball striking is going off like it does then he doesnt need to worry about chipping much.

Would love to see Zal improve his putting and HOV to improve his chipping.   If they could straighten those out even just some, then they climb comfortably right up with the tier below Scottie's stand along tier.

And actually I faded HOV in a matchup bet after he was asked about his game and saying it wasnt very good at the moment.  Coming off a rough sentry and then a cut.  He proceeded to shoot angood round 1 at pebble and finished t22 winning his matchup.  So its hard to pin him down, seems like he could find it at any time.  I just dont understand why guys who are playing well feel the need to totally change equipment so much.  I believe hes waffling on putters.  Its vastly different tinkering on a putting simulator/feedback and seeing good numbers.  Then going out in competition looking down and seeing a foreign putter.  Its a lot about confidence/comfort out in the heat of a round.

Then the Harris English side… I don’t think he has any good course history here.

that’s why I like the players so much. You do need form but you also usually need course history both in terms of experience and actual past good finishes.

also read somewhere that most winners lately have come from the am/pm draw even if we don’t count that whacky 2022 when Cam won. I think Scottie was pm/am last year but if you go back 15 years or something most winners go off early Thursday

it’s a fun but slightly gimmicky course

I’m glad you’re here, bro. I’ve been inviting you to join forever. Ed’s paying the entry fees so have fun and use this as your driving range. Hopefully you dig it and join full time next year.
