It does not make any sense to me as a literal move.  I do not think they want that.  I do not think we could reasonably achieve that.

If we can then agree, for the moment, that the entire premise is just not likely....then we are left with the art of the deal, and this is just another feint.....

1. Way to start off if you truly want an honest discussion.  At least capitalize MAGA for the full affect.

But what does #4 mean? We had an excellent trade deal with Canada which Trump negotiated. Compared to other countries it was very fair. So what is the purpose of antagonizing them? I think Trump must be serious about annexation because I can’t come up with any other reason for the tariffs.

I'm honestly curious what the other side of the argument is.  I don't see how this war with Canada is a good thing.  I don't see why we should invade Canada. I'm guessing you don't either since your only response is about lesbian rock.

No, I actually agree with you but I also know that Trump always overshoots his target to get what he wants. He's after something else which will ultimately be a US friendly trade agreement. 

You should know how Trump operates by now, you shouldn't be upset.

I want Canada just for it's land.  The natural wildlife is incredible and I would love for it to be part of the US.  I'm sure we would find a way to destroy it though.

Trudeau is gone now, and there is nothing flippant about Trump's repeated claims about how Canada will be the 51st state.

This is possibly the thing that upsets me the most about Trump.  Canada was ripe for electing a strong conservative PM (Pierre Poilievre), but then Trump started pissing Canada off with this 51st state idiocy, and Poilievre is associated with Trump (right wing and all), so now it looks like Canada will elect Trudeau v2 (Mark Carney).

Trump admires what Putin did.  Putin used Russia's full might to annex valuable territory.  Trump is looking for opportunities to do the same.  

In the vein that presidents should always look to advance the well being of the nation - even at the cost of other nations - it makes sense.  Canada is resource rich and is valuable land.  However, if the intent would be to perform a hostile takeover of an allied nation, that would likely not have the desired effect of net positive standing of the US and any action taken toward such a goal would be undone by the next president.

Another option is mad man diplomacy, but Trump is neither smart enough to feign such a move with a larger goal in mind nor would his ego allow himself to be purposely perceived as crazy.

So we are left with a dummy trying to cosplay what he thinks is good leadership, but without the necessary insight to understand the nuances of each situation.

It's better for Trump to get what he wants (if he truly wants the US to annex Canada), if a liberal wins the Canadian election.  What person, who wins an election that will be a massive ideology shift for the country, say "Great we won... here, you take over"?  No one.  If Poilievre wins, this would give a 100% assurance that Canada will NOT be annexed by the US.  If Carney wins, there's a better chance of provinces to want to secede from Canada and ask the US for annexation.  A liberal winning helps the US more, on the front of annexation than a conservative.  Trump can't lose from this election.... only Canadians (if they wish to stay as their own country, but vote for Carney).
